Out of the many baby cribs available in the market, Delta Children's Canton 4-in-1 Convertible Crib takes the cake in our "Best Baby Cribs Review". You know you're off with a good start with this one here.
Here is a little background of Delta Children if you have not heard of it before:
- Founded in 1968, now with over 50 years of experience in the industry;
- A baby products company that has produced multiple award-winning baby products (from baby bassinets to gliders to highchairs and strollers) that are well-loved by parents across the world;
- Focuses on product safety and sustainability with all products undergoing stringent quality control to assure all JPMA/ASTM and CPSC safety standards are met;
- Always strive to improve child safety through research, testing, design and community engagement.
In particular, its convertible cribs are especially popular and has earned the likes of many including celebrities like Lauren Conrad and the likes.
Understandably so, because aside from its great quality, all Delta Children baby cribs are priced very reasonably, making them affordable to the mass majority.
Back to the Canton 4-in-1, this is the best convertible baby crib out of all the models available in our opinion.
First of all, it embosses both style and functionality. If you notice closely, you will see that it is embellished with a sleek, sleigh-style headboard and it has beautifully curved legs that are unlike most other baby cribs that employ a straight design.
If you're one that is particular about interior and design, this may fit right up your bill.
For a more cohesive look, know that its very own matching dresser and changing table are available as well.
Of course, safety is what's most important, which you have nothing to worry about in that department with the Canton.
Built from strong solid hardwood sustainably sourced from New Zealand, this baby crib stands sturdily and does not budge at all no matter how hard baby may shake its sides.
Being solid wood also means that you do not have to worry about wood chipping off (like some wood veneer ones do) when a teething baby chew on it (and consume it).
It also surpasses government safety standards, and uses a non toxic finish that is tested for lead and other toxic elements.
To give you a better perspective, lead is the only component required by federal standard to be tested but Delta Children actually conducted tests on all heavy metal to ensure there is no lead or any other harmful component existing in its cribs.
Likewise, the qualifying mattress support test required by federal standard is 750 impacts, but Delta's are able to sustain 3,000 impacts.
And if you've read our baby crib guide, you will know how important it is to have sides that do not drop down. The Canton 4-in-1 is precisely that, employing a non-drop side design to ensure the utmost safety of babies.
Let's talk about its convertibility now.
As a 4-in-1, this wooden baby crib can be converted from crib to a toddler bed, daybed and eventually a full-sized bed (complete with headboard and footboard) as your little one grows.
For daybed and toddler bed conversion, their respective rail and guardrail are included but for its full-size bed version, you will have to buy the conversion kits separately, as with most other convertible cribs that are offered in the market.
However, what's different is that the Delta Children conversion kit is eligible for free replacement parts so most users commend that this is a worthy and value-for-money buy.
To accommodate to such conversion, the mattress is height-adjustable into 3 positions so that it can adapt to baby's sleeping needs as they grow.
In case you're wondering, the Canton 4-in-1 fits all standard size crib mattress, though we think it goes best with this one here.
Aside from the "Espresso Cherry" finish you see above, the Canton 4-in-1 is available in 4 other finishes as well:
*Note that there is a slight variation in price for different finishes so make sure you check if your desired finish fits within your budget.
Pros
Cons
Conclusion
The Delta Children Canton 4-in-1 Convertible Crib is certainly not the cheapest, both from its own range or compared with other brands.
But given the fact that it is constructed of solid hardwood, we think its price point is more than reasonable and justifiable.
Do note that you can buy the crib by itself only, or you can choose its Crib+Mattress package if you do not want to go through the hassle of selecting crib mattresses (we do have an extensive review here though, if you'd like to find out more).
