For those unfamiliar with the brand, all Spectra pumps, including the S2, has a closed system.
The S2 has a maximum suction strength of 300mmHg, hence it being dubbed “hospital grade”, which ensure it is strong and efficient enough to support milk supply.
The most commendable feature of the S2 is perhaps its control flexibility.
Both cycle (how often the pump ‘sucks’) and vacuum (the strength of the suction) can be easily adjusted according to the speed and rhythm most comfortable to your body by using the touch buttons. The digital display allows you to see your customized program at one glance.
The pump will start in ‘massage mode’, a short and shallow mode to stimulate your body’s let-down reflex, just like how your baby telly our body to start milk flow.
It will then switch to expression mode, a deeper and slower pattern of suction that mimics how your baby nurses when milk is flowing. You can switch back and forth between these two features manually, if needed (especially when you find it hard to get a letdown when pumping).
Don’t worry, the suction is fully adjustable whether in let-down or expression mode.
The S2 comes with 2 bottles, 2 breast shields, 2 suction tubes and an ac-adapter, which are basically all that you need for pumping.
Given that, most moms usually buy the extra milk storage bottles and duckbill valves package as these will always come in handy throughout their breastfeeding journey.
